How do I prevent a spotty chest after waxing?
If you want to show off your hard won abs and pecs, its necessary to remove the forest theyre hiding under. But if youve ever had a wax youll know they can cause unsightly, itchy breakouts.
This is because your back and chest are particularly prone to irritation, says waxing expert Andy Rouillard, of Axiom Bodyworks. Pustules typically appear 1-3 days after waxing, caused by friction, irritation or blockage of the hair follicles, which then become inflamed and infected with bacteria.
The key to avoiding an acne-splattered chest is to keep things clean, cool and calm in the days after waxing. Wear loose-fitting clothes, refrain from touching or scratching the treated area, and avoid all sport and other vigorous exercise for the next 24-48 hours, says Rouillard.
If breakouts do occur, use an antibacterial skin wash like Anthony Logistics Acne Cleanser (£22 for 237ml) coupled with regular applications of an antiseptic product such as Outback Organics Post-Wax Spray (£8.99 for 100ml).
The good news is that any spots normally clear within a week and their severity lessens with regular, repeat waxings, says Rouillard. However, if the pustules become painful or dont improve for a significant amoint of time its worth consulting your GP.
