What Is Tums Smoothies?
Calcium is a mineral that is found naturally in foods. Calcium is necessary for many normal functions of the body, especially bone formation and maintenance. Calcium can also bind to other minerals (such as phosphate) and aid in their removal from the body.
Calcium carbonate is used to prevent and to treat calcium deficiencies.
Calcium carbonate may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Calcium can make it harder for your body to absorb certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with calcium carbonate.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medicine if you have other medical conditions, especially:
- a history of kidney stones;
- a parathyroid gland disorder; or
- if you are taking an antibiotic.
Ask a doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.Your dose needs may be different during pregnancy or while you are nursing.
Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.
Tums Smoothies Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you havesigns of an allergic reaction:hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- little or no urinating;
- swelling, rapid weight gain; or
- high levels of calcium in the blood--nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, constipation, increased thirst or urination, muscle pain or weakness, joint pain, confusion, and feeling tired or restless.
Common side effects may include:
- nausea or vomiting;
- decreased appetite;
- dry mouth or increased thirst; or
- urinating more than usual.

Tums Smoothies Interactions
Follow your healthcare provider's instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.
Other drugs may interact with calcium carbonate, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
Tums Smoothies Dosage
Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Calcium carbonate works best if you take it with food.
Swallow the calcium carbonate tablet or capsule with a full glass of water.
Thechewable tabletshould be chewed before you swallow it.
Shake theoral suspension (liquid)well just before you measure a dose. Measure liquid medicine with the dosing syringe provided, or with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
Use the calcium carbonatepowderas directed. Allow the powder to dissolve completely, then consume the mixture.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose.Do nottake extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
